Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Horse Handlers and Grooms Towards Brucellosis in Horses in Kaduna State, Nigeria

A study was carried out to determine the knowledge, attitude and practices of grooms towards brucellosis in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Structured questionnaires were administered 40 horse owners grooms’ men three Local Government Areas (LGAs); Sabon Gari, Zaria Igabi; Nigeria access horses. Results from structured questionnaire showed only 37.50% (95% CI) respondents aware brucellosis, this 22.50% ascribed their sources information on disease be media, 10.00% experienced while 5.00% said they heard professionals who attended veterinary care Of respondents, 15.00% that is zoonotic mentioned it could contracted via ingestion contaminated material (12.50%) contact (2.50%). On reported lending stallions for breeding other stables. Only 2.50% did not borrow because considered trichomoniasis as reproductive diseases result use infected stallions. The also 52.50% 40.00% habit borrowing grooming tools respectively. They lend tool despite mentioning such acts are capable leading ulcerative lymphangitis (95.00%), ringworm (72.50%), dermatophilosis (5.00%) thrush (7.50%). 67.50% participated durbars tournaments with horses participation like (25.00%) wounds (27.50%). 50.00% grazed where animals even there reports abortions by come down brucellosis. All giving horses’ routine medical care, especially against babesiosis. implication finding Brucella organisms may spread among handlers due inadequate knowledge findings revealed poor part grooms. It concluded a need create awareness amongst groomsmen presence well dangers infection.
